A Writing Life

A writer's life has always been an attractive enigma. Does one knock out 2,000 words a day, surviving on crackers, tea and cigarettes all the way through a novel? Louise Doughty's column on the life of a writer demystifies my romantic ideas of what a full-time writer's life is like. A lot of the time, nothing much happens. Hardly a firecracker.

I'm looking forward to Louise's weeks, living out my Ernest Hemingway fantasies through her blog. Cigarettes, rum, pen, paper... Moleskine for the latter of course.
